Sanctuary and Sips

Join ICAA NW for a rare opportunity to step inside a private Seattle residence and experience its extraordinary Japanese-inspired garden through the eyes of the designer and owner who created it.

On Saturday, October 17th, from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM, we’ll enjoy an ICAA NW members-only garden tour led personally by principal Richard Hartlage of Land Morphology.

Drawing on study of stroll gardens in Kyoto and most directly Katsura, the famed royal stroll garden dating to the 14th century, Hartlage collaborated with the owner to create a garden for his priceless collection of sculpted trees. While designing the garden, another private collection of trees was made available. The garden was designed with a narrow palette of plants and building materials to showcase and not distract from the trees. A major watercourse was designed as the structural framework for the garden. The owner supervised the placement of each rock in the composition.

The collaboration between Richard and the owner has yielded an extraordinary garden.

To complement the morning, we’ll be serving sips and light refreshments.
